I thought it would be interesting if we started listing things that Jon and Kate say, that many of us see as damage control. If you know of a specific thing that you think was Jon and Kate trying to cover something up, or trying to explain away why something happened, or why something was said, please share it with us.
I will start.
On the September 15, 2008 show, Kate says... Alexis chooses to sleep in the dungeon, like a bat.
Previously, I believe Jon had said that "they" put Alexis in the basement because she was waking the other children up in the middle of the night. I know this started a lot of people questioning how safe it was for a child to be alone in the basement. Once again, DAMAGE CONTROL!
I also wonder why Kate would choose to call the place where the kids often play, where the family watches TV together, and where Jon and Kate do their interviews, a dungeon, something just seems off to me.

I noticed that one too. The problem is, Kate doesn't know how to do damage control. She says something that makes it sound worse.
I think the way Kate keeps saying they appreciate things without actually saying thank you is damage control. Many people think they do not appreciate what they have or what they are given. I think they are told by producers that people want to see certain things, or are upset about certain things and so they try to squeeze them in.
I can't think of a show in the past few months where I didn't see damage control, I guess that is why we see more interview time and less real life now.
How about this: Kate saying that she is relaxing her "Rules by Kate" in letting the kids have the stuffed animals. I wonder where she came up with the phrase "rules by Kate", maybe right off of a message board?...possibly.
Jon making sure to mention that they are focusing more on 'our' family and not so much with the outside stuff...hmmm wondering what that was in reference to?
Kate made the statement: "we realize that time is short with them and we need to make memories" which she later follows up with: "really, we don't forget for a minute these blessings that have come our way, don't ever think it slips by us..."
They also made a point of saying that they can do it themselves with maybe only one helper. (how noble of them)
That's it for now, I'll probably think of more.
Later...
Yep, I liked how Kate made it sound like that not everything has to be her way all of the time. Sure, I believe her.
Let's see:
1. Waving a check at the Ronald MacDonald house.
2. Letting the kids paint themselves with pudding.
3. Trying to mention grandparents.
4. Kate saying how she is trying to be more lax on the rules.
5. Mentioning how much they know they are 'blessed".
In my opinion, not even close to enough damage control. Damage is already done, unfortunately the damage that is done is to the children.
Just letting the kids paint themselves with pudding was damage control...and on that episode, she kept saying how she was trying to be better.
She will NEVER get better without long-term counseling with a psychiatrist!
I hate how she cannot say "Thank you, everyone who has given us money and sent us things and given us carte blanche to tour your places."
She CANNOT do it. She mumbled something about how aware that they are that without everyone...it wouldn't have to be like it is....something to that effect. The woman can't say "sorry" or "thank you".
The other noticeable damage control is the removal of the "Helllloooo" opening to the shows. However, while they want to run as many previous episodes as they can, it does pop up on the older ones.
Let's not forget Jon saying he gave his ugly sweater to Goodwill.

Oh, yes how could we forget that one...someone please get him a medal!!!
Hmm, ever have something leave a bad taste in your mouth? Ya, this damage control...too little, too late.
These parents leave a really bad taste in my mouth. I am sick over their exploitation of the kids. You know that people outside the show must be trying to get through to them how bad it is for the kids to be photographed constantly and in all situations. They don't care. They know they'll neve rhave to work again and that's good enough for them. Kate & Jon, just talking about God is not enough. You need to think about what you are doing. Karma is a bitch.
The picture of J&K plus 9 with the kid in the bag is a riot!! Would not put it past these two to try to keep the money flowing in with a new one!!
