The Associated Press reports that Shriver sent an invitation to the reality TV star five months ago at the suggestion of her teenage daughters who watch the hit TLC show.
"I think [Kate's] life has certainly changed dramatically, but so be it," Shriver told The Associated Press. "I think that's the beauty of this conference -- to have Madeleine Albright and Kate Gosselin at the same place."
California's first lady will host her annual conference in Long Beach this October, says the AP.
Gosselin was photographed on the Fourth of July holiday with her estranged husband Jon Gosselin -- marking the first time they were spotted together since their headline-grabbing split.

After months of speculation, the 10-year marriage of Jon & Kate Plus Eight's stars Kate and Jon Gosselin appears to be coming to an end, a source close to the situation tells PEOPLE.

Documents to initiate a legal split were filed at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown, Penn., Monday afternoon.

Fans who have watched the couple's popular TLC show – or read the voluminous coverage of the Gosselin marriage in the press – will hardly be surprised: The duo had long maintained a tense relationship, with Jon recently telling PEOPLE he wanted a less high-profile life, while Kate appeared to remain committed to their TV career.

In February, photos surfaced of Jon in the company of young women during a solo visit to see his mother, who was recuperating from surgery, in Huntingdon, Pa. The couple quickly attempted to quash rumors of problems. But in May, the scandal erupted again when 23-year-old Deanna Hummel was photographed driving Jon's car home from a bar late at night.

When the fifth season of the Gosselins' show premiered May 25, the couple admitted to having problems and not knowing where their relationship was headed. "Parents of multiples have triple the divorce rate," Kate said through tears. "I was thinking we were going to beat that. I don't know if I can say that anymore."

TLC promotions of the show are promising a major announcement about the family in Monday night's episode of Jon & Kate Plus Eight.

The following was submitted as a comment but I thought it was worth turning it into an entry.
Thank you to the poster.

After visiting several sites that are dealing with concerns for the Gosselin kids, I thought I'd leave this comment here...the only blog I've so far commented to.

If the moderators feel it inappropriate I understand if they don't post it and I will not pursue the issue, I trust their judgment on the matter.

In all honesty, I'm not sure why I care so much about what happens to these kids.

It's not like I've ever met them, it's not like I've ever donated to their family and thereby feel duped by their parents.

I think it may be because I feel accomplice to what I now see as their exploitation. Part of me wants to redeem myself.

I started watching J&K +8 only a few months ago. TLC shows repeats during the day and it was the earlier episodes.

Like most, I was drawn in by the adorableness of the kids, the banter of J&K and the feeling that "Phew, I only have two."

That's the crux isn't it...if it weren't for the willing audience, there would be no show and we wouldn't be discussing this at 20 comments per hour.

Anyway, it wasn't long before I started noticing that I felt uncomfortable and disconcerted. I began questioning why I was watching it at all.

If I have a plain point it is this, there is just so much evidence that suggests these kids are going to have issues with self-identity.

Parents of identical multiples are advised to dress their children differently to encourage a healthy sense of self-definition.

What we have here is two sets of fraternal multiples being dressed alike, treated alike, doing almost everything together as a pair or a group for their entire lives.

That by itself should raise eyebrows as to whether or not the parents actually see their children as individual people or as THEIR "twins" and "the little kids".

Throw in cameras (not to mention the men running them) documenting every embarrassing (and what 'normal' people would consider private) moment and you're just asking for trouble.

I will stop short of saying I feel sorry for Kate and Jon Gosselin because despite their assertions they did not ask for this...we all know that when they signed that contract, they most certainly did.

I will instead reserve my pity for their children who clearly had no, and have not since had any, say in the matter.

Being an optimist, I do believe Jon and Kate have an opportunity to redeem themselves both in the public eye and in their children's eyes.

All they have to do is decide that the show and the money are not worth the price of their kids' self-esteem.

In all sincerity, I am praying that a revelation hits them, for the sake of those kids, before a court order does.

Nadya Suleman says multi-mom and reality TV star Kate Gosselin should stop judging the "octomom" and deal with her own faltering marriage.
"It's done. I've moved past my 'mistake,'" Suleman — framing the word "mistake" with finger quotemarks — said in a video posted Tuesday on the Web site www.radaronline.com.

"She has her own obvious issues, internal issues, and she needs to stop partially making judgments towards me. She doesn't even know me," Suleman said of Gosselin.

"That's human nature. Tends to happen to people who are less educated," Suleman added. "I surround myself internally and externally with positive energy. She does the opposite."

"Kate's certainly not going to react to that," Laurie Goldberg, a spokeswoman for TLC, the cable TV network that runs Gosselin's show "Jon & Kate Plus 8," said Tuesday. "The octomom can say whatever she wants."

Suleman commented after being shown an interview that Gosselin gave on the "Dr. Phil" show in February. During the interview, Gosselin said she had great difficulties during the first year caring for her sextuplets and her two other children, despite strong support from her husband.

Gosselin had questioned the ability of Suleman, who is unmarried, to deal with her total of 14 children, including eight she had in January. During the interview, it is mentioned that Gosselin had about 50 helpers a week at one point, causing Suleman to scoff.

"I have, like, 10 helpers per week. Why am I not overwhelmed? Why is it not a chaotic mess?" Suleman asked.

"My children are extremely healthy, strong and happy. Don't you have, like, a lot of issues in your life? A lot of marital problems?" she asked of Gosselin. "Why are you so desperate to glom on to my life? For attention?"

Gosselin and her husband have attracted millions of viewers with their cable show, now in its fifth season. The series follows the couple as they raise their children, including 5-year-old sextuplets and 8-year-old twins. Its audience soared following media reports that the couple had cheated on each other. The Gosselins denied it but conceded their marriage is in trouble.

Pennsylvania authorities have opened up a probe into whether reality-show parents Jon and Kate Gosselin are running a televised sweatshop out of their home.
The state Labor Department received a complaint the TV couple -- whose brood of eight children is featured in the red-hot "Jon & Kate Plus 8" on TLC -- are engaging in illegal child labor, according to spokesman Justin Fleming.

"Any complaint we get, we investigate," Fleming said, although the exact nature of the complaint was not clear.

A former nanny who worked with the couple defended them yesterday to The Post.

Angela Krall said that, although the kids are probably on camera too much, the Gosselin home is not a place of child labor.

"It's absolutely ridiculous," Krall, 31, told The Post. "It's like someone is trying to get to them. There are a lot of bad insults flying about them."

TLC insisted it complied with all relevant laws.

The couple -- parents of an 8-year-old set of twins and a 5-year-old set of sextuplets -- were catapulted into headlines after allegations that they were cheating on each other.

Meanwhile, The Post has learned that the Gosselins are having a new kitchen installed inside their already posh $1.1 million mansion, which sits behind a gate on 24 acres, while they stay out of town.

Their huge and well-appointed old kitchen was one of the main backdrops for the season-premiere episode of their show, which drew a blockbuster audience of 10 million on Monday.

The couple moved from a modest home in October to the fancy new digs. They have been criticized for taking a huge amount of swag -- from free trips to plastic surgery.

Monday's episode featured several awkward moments as Jon and Kate talked about the troubles in their marriage -- but denied adultery.

Krall, who says she likes Kate, said the TV mom "comes across as not such a nice person.

"I'd say she's a difficult person to get on with. She doesn't ask people to do stuff, but commands them."

Scamming Churches is Not a Good Idea

As most of you know I was one of the few bloggers in cyber space to defend The Gosselins in the beginning. I still believe that they were mistreated, as they did not fit the template in the media for collecting welfare benefits, however in light of all the hard evidence that has been developing from their family to their ponzi scams at churches, I can not justify their behavior.

When you go into a house of God and lie about your financial status, and collect money from people in that church where most of these people live paycheck to paycheck, not only is that stealing, but it’s criminal fraud. Churches throughout the country are already struggling just to get by on day to day operations and their main sources of revenue are general donations, but most importantly offerings during the service. The Gosselins call this source of their income “love offerings”. The fraud continues as they also charge for autograph pictures at $20.00 a piece all under the banner “it’s for the children”.

Needless to say the children are far from crying poverty, as The Gosselins have reported to make over 3 million last year from their reality show alone, and not including all the freebies, trips, love offerings, etc.

I have got several opinions from criminal law experts in The Commonwealth where some of these people have spoke to some of the churches that complained they were defrauded by The Gosselins and they have all told me that there is more than enough evidence for PA Attorney General Tom Corbett to go forward with a case for fraud against The Gosselins, as well as for The U.S. Attorney General as The Gosselins have conducted this “love offering” scam on a nationwide scale as their methods are very similar to charity style Ponzi schemes.

Last but not least I contacted Tom Corbett’s office without giving my name of course asking the babe who answered the phone if The Gosselins were indeed conducting fraud. The babe on the phone to my amazement said that they have been receiving numerous calls a day asking about The Gosselin Family and their actions especially involving “love offerings”. She then forwarded me to another lady who is the unofficial PR whore for these calls, and all I got was “Mr. Corbet strongly believes that fraud on all levels must be dealt with, however in light of The Gosselins that is currently not an option that Mr. Corbett is considering at this time as it could be harmful to their 8 children.”

. Would you allow your children to view last nights show? Jon and Kate Plus 8 used to be a show appropriate for family viewing. Do Mady and Cara's teachers have to address divorce now? What about the tups teacher? Many of the children the kids attend school with would obviously want to watch themselves and their friends on television and probably couldn't wait to tune in last night. Instead of watching their friends during the birthday party, they tuned in to watching a family falling apart. How could the teachers not address the split?
It is disgusting how low TLC, Jon and Kate Gosselin and their sponsors will go for $$$$

Since TLC is airing the old episodes, I thought I shed some light on how the show works. We’ve discussed this before, but it’s buried somewhere in the archived posts.

When the show first started, Kate made a wishlist of things that she wanted, and that became the theme of each episode–the carpet, twin’s room, bunk beds, cow, hairplugs, teeth whitening, trips, etc. EVERYTHING that you see them do or buy is completely paid for out of the budget for the show or traded for free advertising. Kate went on and on about saving up for special days, you saw her paying for things, she talked about budgeting, etc. It is all for the appearance that they are a struggling family with 8 children. They needed to be relatable. They didn’t pay for any of it.

The episodes are also staged. Here’s how it works…there is a staff of people reading these blogs and they base the shows around what people are talking about. I haven’t watched many episodes, but I do know some of the behind the scenes events.

The Christmas episode from 2007. Producers told Kate that the viewers wanted to see her show appreciation to their helpers. They told her what the episode was going to be. I think they baked cookies and then went caroling (of course this was probably one of their many “traditions”–those are all fake too). Kate threw a fit. She didn’t want to do it, but she did…because they were trying to pacify the viewers.

Another example is the “Games Gosselins Play” (I think that might have been the same episode as their “mission statement”). I actually did watch this one. This was around the time that I started reading discussion boards and finding out that there were many people opposed to the show. It was so obvious that the mission statement was addressing all of the concerns that I had been reading online. The game time was just ridiculous. After the episode, I called Jodi and said, “what was that?”. She hadn’t watched it, so I explained that it came across so fake (at least to me). Jodi was with Kate when she got “the call” about the theme for that episode. Kate said something like, “so now I have to pretend that I play with my kids”. They also wanted her to pay special attention to the boys.

Don’t believe everything you see. The children are also being prompted to say or do certain things. They signed their lives away to TLC and they will continue to spin the show to keep the viewer’s interest. I don’t believe this show will go away until the viewers decide that they don’t want to be played anymore.

Of course, you’ve all figured out that they are showing Kate cook/bake to promote her upcoming cookbook. The show has now turned into a show about a family with a reality show–move to a mansion, cross-over shows, book tour, talk shows…

I’ve only watch a handful of episodes. I haven’t even seen all of the episodes that Jodi has been in. I made a personal decision long ago to do what I can to give those children the privacy and respect that they deserve. I refuse to watch and participate in something that I feel so strongly against.

Please don’t watch on Monday. You’re not going to learn anything new by watching. They will only show what they think people want to see and it isn’t real anyway. They will probably drag this out (J&K’s “relationship”) for the entire season. They just string the viewers along hoping that they will come back for more.

Kate Gosselin is surrounded by people that use her. She has no idea that she has been exploited just as badly as she exploits her own 8 children. I truly believe that in her own mind, she actually thinks she is a big talent, an accomplished writer and an inspirational speaker. Why not? Everyone that surrounds her tells her so.

First........the show. The TLC executives are stunned at the success of Jon and Kate Plus 8. They have got a HUGE hit on their hands. They are ecstatic! Kate is naive and very greedy, a perfect target! They romance her with expensive dinners, nice trips, freebies and cash beyond her wildest dreams. At first, Kate feels it is an end to the constant budget constraints she has encountered raising 8 children. She is no stranger to begging and taking so she happily signs away her family's privacy on the dotted line. The show is beating every other show in the TLC lineup so the executives court Kate and give in to her increasing demands. The viewers notice that Katie begins to sport a little rooster like spike on the back of her head.

All of a sudden Kate becomes a "Goddess" of sorts to thousands of fans (aka sheepie). They are so obsessed with her and Kate's head is beginning to swell beyond capacity! Kate thinks she is the next Martha Stewart. They send her gifts, they send the children gifts, companies are knocking her door down with offers of freebies. Kate begins adding stripes to her hair.

Next comes the speaking engagements. Kate walks on stage to the sounds of Kate! Kate! Kate! as if she just caught the winning touchdown at the Super Bowl. Her head is expanding so rapidly that her hair is beginning to stand up on its own.

In steps Beth Carson, a family friend who offers to help Kate write a book about her so called life with sextuplets and twins. Beth essentially writes the book but receives no credit. (It is alleged that there was a fallout between Beth Carson and Kate Gosselin because of TLC wanted to pay the Carsons for shooting on their property but Kate wouldn't hear of it.)
Next comes the whirlwind book tour. Thousands of sheepie flock to dozens and dozens of book signings to have Kate autograph a copy of Multiple Ble$$ings. Kate's head is so big now that hair will only grow on one side of her head because her ego is busting out the hair follicles before they have a chance to grow.

Zondervan (book publisher) is fawning over her every need. This small Christian Publishing company has never had a book on the NY Times Bestseller list, let alone two! They give in to her demands of first class air tickets, a $1600/day bodyguard, first class accommodations and anything Kate asks for even more book signings! The back of Kate's hair finally explodes due to the busting ego trying to escape her head.

So take a narcissist and add in TLC executives, thousands of sheepie, Zondervan and there you have it.

The Monster and her hair is CREATED!!!

What is so sad about this whole story is the whole premise, the basis of Jon and Kate Plus 8 are the children...who have been forgotten.

The Gosselins make up to $75,000 per episode on their TLC hit, Jon & Kate Plus 8, for a 20-episode season -- and that's not even counting all their freebies!

As the Los Angeles Times reports that TLC is scrambling to find a way to revise the May 25 season premiere given the latest news on the couple, the delicate balancing act of how to incorporate reality into a heavily produced "reality" show is in the balance.

For the Gosselin clan, it's not just their show -- but their lifestyle -- that hang in the balance.

Kate, who grew up in a trailer park and didn't go on her first airplane ride until her honeymoon to Disney World, now flies only first class for speaking engagements (mostly paid for by churches), sells signed photos of her kids for $20 a pop at appearances, and received a free tummy tuck after giving birth (Jon received a free hair transplant). A family source says while pregnant with the sextuplets, she grew "obsessed" with how many goodies the famed McCaughey septuplets received in 1997.

Jon, now a stay-at-home dad, was fired from his job at Style Craft Corp in 2004 after "spending much more time" on a "quest" for freebies than working, the company's owner, David Rothermel, tells Us. (Rothermel finally has spoken out after growing furious at the couple's well-worn claim that he was fired because the company didn't want to insure his family.)

"Instead of keeping the attention on their kids, they've let the attention turn to money and fame," says a family source of Jon and Kate, who, according to Nielson Media Research, are ranked No. 8 on the list of cable shows with the most product placement.

Marc Berman, senior television editor at Mediaweek, says producers cannot continue to portray the Gosselins as an everyday family trying to raise eight kids.

"Their lives have changed - they're not struggling anymore," Berman tells Usmagazine.com. "They're eating at fancy restaurants now. Yeah, they still have eight children, but things are different.

In order for the show to survive, Mediaweek's Berman says the Gosselins need to be upfront with the audience.

"They're now a celebrity couple," says Berman. "The emphasis of the show has changed, and they need to address how they've evolved."

he tells Us. "You can't fool an audience."

Kate Gosselin, whose adventures raising twins and sextuplets are chronicled on the hit TLC reality show Jon & Kate Plus Eight, is fighting back at reports that she has been having a more-than-platonic relationship with Steve Neild, a bodyguard who frequently travels with her and her family.

Two weeks after stories linked her husband, Jon Gosselin, with a 23-year-old school teacher, Kate says she is now the target of tabloid lies. "The next story coming out from the animals that stalk us is about our security person and his family," Kate tells PEOPLE exclusively. "Already the allegations they're making about me are disgusting, unthinkable, unfathomable, and I am horrified."

"These are people who absolutely love us and want to see us through to the end," Kate says of Neild and his family. "Of course, both of them travel with us at times, and we've spent holidays together, because, in this situation, your circle grows smaller and smaller, and it's very natural to become friends with your manager, your publicist, your security team ... they're the only people you have left. And now they're coming under fire."

With few close companions, and her marriage to Jon hitting a rough patch, Kate says she is terrified that this latest round of stories will drive away the friends she and her family have left. "I'm totally panicking, and thinking, 'We are going to lose our last set of friends.' I keep calling them, begging, 'Seriously, I'm so sorry. Don't run away from us.' They keep saying, ‘We're fine, we're fine.' But they have paparazzi in front of their house. It's so upsetting."

Most troubling to her is the realization "we opened our world to this," she says, adding, "but we willingly made a conscious decision to put this out there. Our friends and family did not. I had no idea we would potentially take down the people that we love around us."

She adds: "It's like saying, 'Thanks for your support, let me sic the paparazzi on you.' It's very very difficult. It leaves us, essentially, alone and friendless. It's terrible.

Ultimately, Kate says she does not know what she can do to stop the insanity. "The scary thing for me is [the tabloids] are going to take information and create a story. It's a matter of, 'When will they stop?' They're going to keep going, and they'll make up stuff to connect the dots."

Kate clears the air about the other tabloid reports – including her feelings about her husband's bar-hopping and her plans for her family's future – in the upcoming issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday.

Ultimately, Kate says she does not know what she can do to stop the insanity.

It’s OUR birthday! We’re 5! The funny thing about having multiples is that they do everything in ‘we’s’…. and my sextuplets on their birthday are no different! This Sunday, my babies are turning five years old and I am asking myself that very well used question: ‘where has the time gone?’

On this day, five years ago, I was appropriately grouchy and unbearable…. I couldn’t even stand myself! I was doing what I was supposed to be doing, ‘gestating’ (as Jon always put it) my six and growing more impatient as each second passed. I was a big inflated misersble blob!

On one hand, I wanted nothing more than to go into labor because I knew my body was screaming that it couldn’t take much more…. I could literally feel it failing. On the other hand, I knew that I needed to fight for every second possible to keep my six predetermined preemies in where they were safe and exactly where they were supposed to be. . There was never going to be a time that was ’safe’ for me to deliver. I was fighting for their lives and furthermore, for their quality of life!

A few hours after the close of Mothers Day 2004, my most miserable one in my history of being a mother, I received the best six gifts (to add to the previous best two gifts I had already received in 2000) I have ever received. Alexis Faith, Hannah Joy, Aaden Jonathan, Collin Thomas, Leah Hope, and Joel Kevin arrived in that order to make my life complete. Each was completely perfect, healthy and beautiful! A mothers day I will never ever forget….I had fought and won a very trying battle….

This year, as we celebrate that miraculous day, five years later, on Mothers day, I am completely happy to step aside and allow my miracles to shine ….after all, when I look at my Precious Eight little Faces, I am quite sure that, for me, everyday is Mothers Day!

Here's our list of the lowest of the low, the so-called stars that almost make us ashamed to be addicted to reality TV.

Spencer and Heidi ("The Hills")
They can't do a single thing without turning it into an impromptu photo shoot, and whenever their press coverage starts to dwindle they just get faux-married to gross everyone out and make headlines. They are the worst kind of celebrity -- the kind that doesn't care why they're famous, as long as they are.

Coach ("Survivor")
Coach is a delusional, misogynistic jerk, even if his compulsive lying is hilarious to watch at times. Did you know he was kidnapped by Amazonian warriors once? And that they tried to eat his butt? And that he's a dragon slayer? The truly scary thing is he actually appears to believe his tall tales.

Jaime ("The Amazing Race")
She hates it when people do not speak English, so it makes perfect sense that she would want to go on a show that constantly requires her to communicate with people who do not speak English. She's also ridiculously impatient, a yeller, and a huge embarrassment to her lovely teammate Cara.

Tyra Banks ("America's Next Top Model")
No matter who you are, what your story is, how well or poorly you are able to smile with your eyes, it is always, always, always all about Tyra. Each "Top Model" episode is about 10% modeling and 90% Tyra worship. She may have embraced a healthy body image, but she's yet to embrace a little thing we like to call self-awareness.

Dr. Drew ("Celebrity Rehab")
Is there no group of people in pain he won't exploit for television? The answer seems to be no. He has like 19 shows on the air right now, and all of them showcase his self-indulgent need to appear to be a savior to desperate people at their rock bottom. Note to Dr. Drew: those people need real rehab, not a VH1 mansion and a camera crew.

Clint Black ("Celebrity Apprentice")
Clint has turned out to be the unlikely villain of this season. He's smug, he's arrogant, he never takes that damn hat off, and he has only terrible ideas. Why has he lasted this long? And why does The Donald keep reminding us about all the records he's sold? Nobody cares!

Gordon Ramsay ("Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares")
Screaming expletives at people for messing up a Beef Wellington is pretty universally uncalled for. Points for being the most creative name-caller on television, though. Crunchy risotto? You're a "[bleep] donkey!" Overcooked John Dory? Get out of here, you "[bleep] donut!" Ramsay may be hilarious, but he's also a jerk.

Kelly Bensimon ("The Real Housewives of New York City")
From calling Jill's daughter's arthritis "cute," to picking an unnecessary fight with Bethenny, to showing up late to her own Halloween party, to just being the most self-centered, self-involved person on a show about abysmally self-centered, self-involved people, Kelly is a walking nightmare.

Jon and Kate Gosselin ("Jon and Kate Plus 8")
They are literally never not at each other's throats, pettily bickering and insulting each other in front of the kids constantly and barely tolerating one another in their interviews. The kids are funny and adorable, but their parents' relationship is horrific, and one of the most depressing things to watch on television.

Megan ("Rock of Love," "Charm School," the upcoming "Trophy Wife")
She got kicked out of "Charm School" for fighting, then she showed up drunk to the reunion, told Sharon she thinks Ozzy is brain-dead, got a glass of wine poured over her head by the headmistress herself and then turned around and sued Sharon for battery. Over a spilled drink. She's by and far the vilest lady in "Rock of Love" history, which is quite a feat indeed.

TLC - Laughing All the Way to the Bank of Exploitation

There are many people out there that believe that the recent photo of Jon with a "mystery" woman driving his new $40,000.00 sports car was a PR stunt to get more viewers to tune in to Season Five of Jon and Kate Plus 8. I don't believe it, but, I don't doubt for one moment that TLC is ecstatic that "America's Most Watched Family" (per their commercial) was the lead in story for almost every major entertainment show and tabloid.

When are Jon and Kate going to realize that they are being exploited as much as they are exploiting their children? Jon has said that he hates the attention and the fact that he can't live his life as an "average" citizen. Well then how do you think your EIGHT children feel? It's time to stand up, be a man and put your foot down for once. Maybe Kate can't see through her fake tan how much TLC is using your family for their own greed but Jon maybe you can!

They're using you Jon and Kate! Wake up!!!!! Stop being so selfish and greedy...Enough already! Save what you have left of your souls! Rescue your children before it's much too late to do so....

There are usually two sides to every story and then there is the truth. My opinion is that there is and has been trouble in paradise brewing for a long time. I don't believe Jon actually cheated on Kate. He doesn't strike me as the unfaithful type. I honestly believe that Jon still loves Kate and wants the marriage to work but is lost without a job or a purpose or someone directing his every move. He probably was sitting at home bored to tears after the kids went to bed at about
7 or 8pm, received a text from a "female" friend and was talked into going out or he just decided he needed a night out. I wonder how many nights he goes out during the week or was this a one time thing? OR.....was the whole thing a set up by the "female" friend? Did she know that she could sell the photo? Who knows? But what I know for sure is McMansion was not a very pleasant place to be in last night or tonight for that matter!

Most married couples wind down their day together. After putting the kids to bed, they discuss the days events and may choose to watch television or lay in bed and read books or finish up a home project. With Kate gone 20 days out of the month, he has no one to share stories of the kids with. One of the tups rode their bike without training wheels or one of the kids said the funniest thing today....maybe one of the tups woke up dry for the first time or has a loose tooth. There are probably so many "firsts" and milestones that Kate has missed. So sad. Sure, they might text one another or talk on the phone during her breaks but I doubt they end their calls with "I love you and miss you". I think they have grown apart and a decision has to be made whether they want to make their marriage work or call it quits.

I believe they are no longer partners in marriage, just partners in business.
Unfortunately, the odds are against them based on the curse of the reality show couples.

Reality Show Villain = High Ratings

As if it isn't bad enough that TLC has exploited the Gosselin children but I am convinced more than ever that their objective is to make Kate out to be the next big reality tv villain.
It didn't begin that way but when Kate's true colors came to the surface and the message boards began buzzing about what a bitch Kate was, TLC realized they were on to something.
You see, villains bring BIG ratings! They don't last long because the viewers tire of them and move on to the next villain. It is human nature to stand up for the underdog, which in this case.....is not Kate Gosselin. The underdogs unfortunately are her own 8 children and husband. Also included various family members and friends.
Id Kate is as nasty to the production staff as she is to her own family, they are probably sick and tired of her and her antics. The cameramen have learned to focus on portraying Kate as the villain....after all it is their only recourse for retaliation. They are loving it!!!
Kate prances around her house in high heels while not allowing any of the production staff to wear shoes at all. How do you think this flies with the staff? They must L O V E this woman! I wonder if they are forced to use outhouses and not allowed in any of the hundreds of bathrooms they have in the house......but then again, Kate doesn't really care about human waste all over the house as she does a few footprints.
Kate believes she is right all the time, never wrong.....just like all the other reality tv villains, who received their 15 minutes of fame and have since moved on. What is so unfortunate is that Kate may move on but 8 children have to call this woman, "mommy".

Some of the most memorable moments in reality television have been created by the likes of Omarosa, Puck and Simon. They curse, scream, scheme and bring a new level of competition to the reality show. Like them or hate them, they have sent ratings through the roof and made headlines.

Reality tv villains are ratings gold! It's so sad that she doesn't see what TLC is doing to her and her family, all she sees is $$$$ signs.
Oprah and Dr Phil are guilty of exploiting not only the children but of exploiting Kate Gosselin. They portray her as mother of the year, but she is known more for the villain of the year.

There is no doubt in my mind, she threatens her children with that paper roll or the 'infamous" red spoon.

Brilliant observation, Maria. However, at the rate Katie Irene is going, there is not going to be any "college fund" for the kids. "If" they do continue the series, I see it only lasting another season at best. I am guessing it is a contingent five year contract. After the age of five, what are the cameramen goingt to do, film the 'tups around school? I think not. I do see Kate being selfish enough to allow filiming to occur while the kids come home from school, interferring even more with their daily lives. Can you imagine these children when the "lights and cameras" are gone? My sympathies for their school teachers.

And to end, when my husband and I decided to have children, we decided to put away from day one for their college savings. No worries of explotation or cable series coming our way anytime soon. It has been very difficult, but I have continued to save for my daughters' college education, even though my husband passed away 6 years ago and I have battled cancer not once but twice. This second round, my insurance would not cover. My oldest daughter graduates in 2013 and it will be here in a blink of an eye. There are those that have it more harder than I, and that is why I am disgusted at the times that Kate says she is "exhausted" because she is "working". Give me a break, Kate. You have no idea of what is going on the real world. While others are losing their jobs and homes, you and your husband quit your jobs and purchase a multi-million dollar home because you exploit your children. You have turned your "youngest" twin, Maddy, into a hot mess that you have no idea how to handle, and it seems as if your perfect world is crumblind down around you. I still have the look on your face etched in my mind when the doctor's wife was gracious enough to convince him to donate his servies for a tummy tuck for you...you also wanted breast augmentation, and the doctor suggested you get a new bra.. seems as if that was the only time you have been told "no" to something in your life. You did not say a word, you did not have to..the anger was written all over your face.
I have to admit, I did enjoy the show. It showed me that all the money and freebies, and donations in the world do not make one happy. It is family and friends that make our lives complete. You, Kate, have written all of your family and friends off, so know all you have is your "show" and your money....how miserable you must be.

Inconsistent Kate

1. We only eat organically Who has ever seen them eat anything organic?
2. Hannah won't let me cut her hair. I won't allow Hannah to cut her hair
3. We don't have any help. I guess nannies, cooks and housekeepers don't count.
4. I hate shopping for clothes. Kate's new hobby
5. Jon works for Bob, now. Jon is unemployed
6. Wanted to marry in Hawaii the first time.. Never mentioned prior to free trip!
7. Jon-My mother lives too far to visit. Wasn't far away when she broke her foot?

'Jon & Kate Plus 8' Gosselins bring home two new German Shepherd puppies

File this under: What the heck were they thinking?
The Gosselins, who star in the TLC reality series, "Jon & Kate Plus 8," already have their hands full with their eight small children: twin eight year-old daughters and their six four-year old brothers and sisters.

So why in the world would they decide to get two puppies to add to their chaotic household?

That is not fully explained in the half hour episode that aired earlier this evening on TLC at 9 p.m. EST.

"Our kids wanted a pet. They've always wanted a pet. They begged for a puppy. We moved here, we have the land. I thought it made sense," explains Kate. "Somewhere along the line, one puppy became two puppies, which I'm not quite sure how that happened."

"That means double the poop. Oops, we forgot about that," adds Jon.

When Kate announces to her brood that, "For Christmas...we're getting not one, but two, puppies," the kids start screaming deliriously.

Kate has enormous reservations about getting the puppies--"all the mess, all the poop, all the pee, the added expense, the hair, the slime"--and has never had a dog and doesn't know how to take care of one.

Her husband Jon says, "I didn't know anything about dogs."

"We were so stinking scared of bringing them home," Kate says. "We were more scared to get dogs than we were to have kids."

Which again begs the question, why did they decide to add two highly needy, untrained, un-housebroken puppies to the mix?

In any event, cameras follow the Gosselins to a breeder's facility. (The breeder's name is Jeff. He met Kate at a function where the Gosselins spoke and he began telling Kate what a great family dog the German Shepherd was, and the intelligence of the breed.)

The family picks out a male and female puppy. Kate names the puppies: Shooka for the boy, and Nala for the girl. The Gosselins are ill-prepared to take the puppies home with them that day, but they do. On the long drive home, they stop at a pet store to load up on supplies.

Once at home, Shooka and Nala do what puppies do: they pee on the carpet. At this point, Kate has what can only be described as a freak out session. "No, no, no, no! " she screams, running after the puppies and scrambling to clean up the mess with paper towels.

It's baffling why Kate, famous for her list-making and organizational skills, agreed to get the puppies in the first place.

"I did eight potty trainings," she says. "I don't want to do potty training with fur."

Hundreds of employees have been laid off from Lane but they decide to donate thousands and thousands of dollars worth of furniture to America's most UN-DESERVING couple. What are they thinking? Lane Furniture couldn't find more deserving families?

The Gosselin family moves into a 1.3 million dollar house without the luxury of using the equity of their old house and have traveled more in one year than more families travel in 10 years. They have had 5 star vacations to Maui, North Carolina, Utah, San Diego, DisneyWorld and many local parks and attractions. What makes this family so special and so deserving?

What is the difference between Kate Gosselin exploitation and Nadya Suleman holding out for the highest bidder. Why is Kate Gosselin glorified for doing exactly the same thing that Nadya Suleman.

Critics have commented on whether or not Suleman has had cosmetic surgery, why not criticize Kate Gosselin for her plastic surgery? Kate Gosselin has had a tummy tuck and lipo-suction on television pro-bono in exchange for advertisement for the surgeon. Kate Gosselin has obviously recently undergone botox injections and either utilizes a tanning booth or a spray tan. Again, what is the difference?
Jon hasn't been left out of the freebies for self improvement. He has undergone a hair transplant on television while leaving his 8 children home sick with his in-laws. He has also had lasix surgery and teeth whitening.
So, the next time the media criticizes Nadya Suleman, they should take a long hard look at Kate and Jon Gosselin who appear to be the role models for this new mother of 16.

Did any of you play "house" when you were kids? Can you imagine the tups playing "house" at pre-school? Imagine how the other little boys are treated by the girls. One of these days, one of the boys will not put up with their behavior and there will be trouble. Oh and you watch, Kate will blame it on the other child. Their behavior is learned from their role model, their mother. If Kate is telling the truth when she tells us that one of the only shows the kids watch is their own, they watch as their mother berates and belittles their father during each and every episode, needless to say they are witness to this when the cameras are off. Not only that, Kate shows no respect to her viewers during her couch interviews and acts like she was raised in a barn. How quickly she has forgotten who butters her bread! It's no wonder her daughters display signs of bad behavior, look at their mother! How can Kate tell her children to sit up straight, mind their manners and show respect when their role model is slouching on the couch in her smelly stocking feet acting like a queen and slamming their father every chance she gets. Kate will ultimately be the downfall of the empire she has build around the exploitation of her children.
And what about the poor boys playing house in preschool? They probably wonder why the other girls are being nice to them and not yelling. I mean what else do they know? They only know that women are mean to men and that their father is yelled at by their mother constantly. They are learning to be little whipping boys just like their father. What other male role models do they have? The camera men? You know the ones that were bossed by Kate to vacuum up the living room while they switched the blinds. They have no grandfathers in their lives, nope....the only thing they know is that men are treated like second class citizens in the Gosselin household and they figure that is the way life is. So, when a little girl at school is nice to them, they are confused.
When the girls were misbehaving during last week morning interviews, they were emulating their mother's behavior. Pick on the boys and behave rudely. Isn't this what their mother has taught them? Kate has taught the girls to behave like bossy little brats and the boys are well behaved mini-Jons exactly what they see when they watch the dvds of their own show. And this is exactly what we saw during the interviews. Why is anyone surprised?

In Two Short Years

Have you noticed the change in Kate's appearance in the space of two short years? Two years ago, we watched a woman who wore baggy yoga pants, t shirts, had a sensible short brown hair cut, wore no makeup and was a little chubby. I thought she looked fantastic for a woman who had 8 kids in 4 years. I admired her organization, her relationship with her husband and what amazed me the most was the fact that she showed the world her "jowls of a dog" tummy! I was captured by this charming young woman who clipped coupons and shopped at Sam's club. What I did take notice of was some of the items that she placed on the cart while shopping but didn't think twice of it at the time. For example, I didn't understand why they would need all those clorox wipes which are expensive and to me a luxury item but whatever. I also noticed they bought individual packs of oatmeal rather than the big bulk containers which are actually healthier and less expensive, again...whatever. I have also read that Jon placed the video game "Tour of Duty" in the cart which I don't remember but I have read it more than once. Still, I thought whatever. What I couldn't believe was the final total. Wasn't it in the thousands? I thought, "wow, how do they afford that in one month?" The total amount could very well be Jon's total months salary or close to it. Still, I thought whatever.
Back at home, my heart melted for Alexis as her mother bathed her after her accident in the crib. Or, when Kate comes home and one of the tups keeps saying "hi mommy, hi mommy, hi mommy". Oh! So cute!!!

What do we see now? A woman that has had a tummy tuck, lipo-suction, teeth-whitening, a spray on tan, maybe a little botox, a beautiful new wardrobe, someone who admittedly has time to work on a treadmill for 90 minutes a day, uses money sent to her to take herself to the spa and wears more makeup than Alexis Arquette. All this with a brand new self-entitled bitchy attitude! We see Kate slouched down on the interview couch with her smelly stocking feet in our face with total disregard or respect for the viewers. Show some class woman, sit up straight and sit like a lady and at least act like you're enjoying yourself...we after all paid for that couch you're slouching on.
Her hair is still brown but it is striped with different shades of brown, yellow, red tints and is styled......well.....I will leave the style out of it....to each his own!
They now live in a home that was purchased for 1.2million dollars without having to use the equity in their old house. Incredible, especially in this economy!
So, the question is....who paid for the tummy tuck, the lipo-suction, etc? Who paid for the hair plugs on Jon's head?
The payment came in the form of Hannah, Joel, Alexis, Collin, Aiden, Leah, Mady and Cara. I only name Mady and Cara because they are dragged into this but they alone could never carry this show. The kids paid for it!

There are many that are beginning to see Kate for who she really is but many have seen that a very long time ago. I never could understand the fascination with Kate, I agree the kids are cute but I had to look past the cuteness and think about what exactly goes on.

There is something referred to as the fourth wall in reality tv, it is something they don't want the viewers to think about. It is the cameramen, the sound men, the producers and the rest of the crew. The producers don't want you to believe there are are others in the room but what you see on tv. There was an "outakes" show once where Jon, Kate, Cara and Mady went to California (its where Kate steals pinecones from our beautiful National park, thanks Kate!) and Kate yells at Jon for directing a comment or question to Jen, the producer. Kate reprimands Jon for talking to Jen because it supposed to appear that they are not present and neither are the cameras. The kids think this is a natural part of everyday life since the boys imitate the sound men and Alexis asked someone on the fourth wall recently "what are you looking at?" Not to mention the professional lighting that was installed in their old house. Sounds like a television set to me. The bottom line is that there would be no show, no book deal, no speaking engagements if there were no sextuplets. If Kate set out to have sextuplets or not is irrelevant at this point as far as I am concerned, what is relevant is that she has used those kids to make a buck and big bucks at that. Who is suffering because of it? The kids are.

Beginning with the twins, their mother has said they are teased at school, Mady's behavior is a scream for help, Cara's silence is deafening. The sextuplets are still young and what is "normal" to them is to be in front of a camera more than 50% of their week. The other half of the week is spent with only one parent and a nanny while one of the parents travels around the country telling their tired old story of how broke they "were" to mega churches without any mention of how they are financially set now. These speaking engagements where they reportedly charge $25,000 are held at least 8 times a month. Lots of moola wouldn't you agree? Is this not exploitation? Would you give strangers photographs of your children, much less "sell" them? Jon and Kate are basically selling their story for the almighty dollar, what is the difference between her and the mother of the octuplets? Nothing!
Not only do they sell their story week after week, they sell photographs of their children for $20, cash only please! They have also been known to ask for donations towards their children's college funds and their own retirement! Retirement from what? The kids are the ones that need to retire! Let me ask you, would you give photographs of your children to complete strangers? Would you sell them to complete strangers?
The bottom line is no one would be interested in their story had they only had twins. It is the sextuplets that are in Jon's words "marketable". What parent refers to his children as "marketable". I didn't make this up folks, it is out of the mouth of their own father. Search Jon's interview in Utah and you can hear him say it yourself.

I don't understand how the fans can think this is an appropriate way to raise your children, in front of cameramen, producers, sound men, and the other multitudes of people it takes to tape an episode. They are dragged from one location to another. Sometimes they have to go twice if the weather did not cooperate.
I hope the birth of the octuplets and her alleged demands for money to tell her story will bring the Gosselin situation to the forefront and make people think twice about what they are doing to their children.

Kate is her own worst enemy. There would never have been so many negative blogs about the show had she been just a tiny bit more gracious and appreciative. If she could treat her husband like a human being instead of a whipping boy. She is not a nice person, people! Kate, herself will ultimately be the cause of the demise of the show. Not one agency has stepped in to help these children who know no other life than in front of the cameras. There are loopholes in the laws that govern how many hours a minor can work on a television set since Jon and Kate Plus 8 is a reality tv show. Since reality tv is a relatively new genre, new laws need to be set in place to help protect the children. Coogans law helps to protect the earnings of the children from their parents. Who receives the money from Jon and Kate Plus 8? I would guess it would be Jon and Kate as evidenced by their new lavish lifestyle and the physical changes in Kate. It takes money to look that good Kate and she does look better than ever if you like fake tans and lots of makeup. She is an attractive woman on the outside (the best money can buy) but a very ugly person on the inside. Her sense of style has improved so I am guessing she must have hired a stylist since she has admitted to saying she has no sense of style. If you remember the episode "Kate's Wardrobe Makeover", Jon has to tag along to help her choose clothes because Kate admits she doesn't know how to dress. My, how times have changed!!!
By the way, nice earrings she wore on the Larry King show, thanks kids!!!

I find it ironic that her appearance was aired at the same time as her reality show which showed Kate acting like she does, treating her husband like crap and being the demanding diva she has turned into. I wonder if God told her to act that way to her husband, after all she is a devout Christian woman, so she says! Don't you just love the way she treats her husband? It also happened to be the episode where they move into their mansion, all this while Larry King is discussing how the mother of the octuplets is trying to "sell" her story. Larry, all you had to do was switch over to TLC and you could have witnessed the result of selling your children to the highest bidder. The PR representative for the mother of the octuplets has stated that the mother only wanted one more child and ended up with 8, sounds oddly familiar to me.

I expect a boat load of comments from fans that will say I need to get a life, I am jealous, Jon and Kate are doing the best they can. They will also give the argument, "they have given their children opportunities they would not otherwise had". How many 4 year olds go to Maui to a 5 star resort with a stopover in San Diego so they could get used to the time change? I would bet maybe less than 5 percent of our population. The opportunity they are not afforded is the luxury of growing up in privacy with the loving care of both parents. Wouldn't that be a nice change for these kids?

Woman Gives Birth to Octuplets in SoCal Hospital

BELLFLOWER, Calif. – A woman gave birth Monday to eight babies, only the second time in history octuplets have survived more than a few hours, doctors said.
The mother gave birth to six boys and two girls weighing between 1 pound, 8 ounces, and 3 pounds, 4 ounces, doctors at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center said. The hospital had scheduled a Caesarean section for seven babies, but doctors were surprised when an eighth came out at 10:48 a.m.
"My eyes were wide," Dr. Karen Maples said, explaining her reaction to the last birth.
Doctors said the babies were born nine weeks premature but are in stable condition. Two newborns were placed on ventilators and a third needs oxygen.
Hospital officials would not release any information about the mother, including her name, condition or whether she used fertility drugs. They did, however, say she planned to breast feed all of them.
"She's a very strong woman, so she probably will be able to handle all eight babies," said Dr. Mandhir Gupta, a neo-natologist who cared for the infants.
The mother checked into the hospital in her 23rd week of pregnancy and gave birth seven weeks later. All eight babies will probably remain in the hospital for at least two months and the mother should be released in a week, Maples said.
The world's first live octuplets were born in March 1967 in Mexico City, but all the babies died within 14 hours, according to Encyclopedia Britanica.
The United States' first live octuplets were born in Houston in December 1998. They were three months premature and their weights at birth ranged from 11 ounces to 1 pound, 11 ounces. The tiniest infant died of heart and lung failure a week after being born. The surviving siblings — girls Ebuka, Gorom, Chidi, Chima and Echerem, and their brothers Ikem and Jioke — turned 10 in December.
Their mother and father, Nkem Chukwu and Iyke Louis Udobi, said they are astonished and grateful their children have grown up to be healthy and active. Chukwu is even happier to hear another mother successfully accomplished the same feat.
"It's a blessing, truly a blessing," Chukwu told The Associated Press. "We'll keep praying for them."
Forty-six hospital staff and four delivery rooms were used for the latest octuplets' births. After one baby was born, staff rushed the newborn into another room and waited for the next, the hospital said. But despite weeks of preparation, doctors did not expect the eighth child.
"It is quite easy to miss a baby when you're anticipating seven babies," said Dr. Harold Henry, chief of maternal and fetal medicine at the hospital. "Ultrasound doesn't show you everything."
Doctors said they repeatedly conducted practice sessions on the deliveries and were well prepared. Gupta said the woman was given spinal anesthesia and could hear the babies as they came out.
"When the first baby came out, he was crying and kicking," Gupta said. "That eased the tension in the operating room because the first one came out healthy."
Dr. Richard Paulson, director of the fertility program at the University of Southern California, said octuplets born premature could face serious health risks, including breathing problems and neurological damage. The mother also has an increased risk of hemorrhage, Paulson said.
"It's a risky decision to try to have all eight babies," said Paulson, who had no role in the delivery. "I would not recommend it under any circumstances, but I respect a parent's decision."
For people who use fertility drugs, the vast majority of births — 80 percent — are single babies. Among multiple births, the most common are twins, Paulson said.
Paulson said the latest births likely resulted from the use of fertility drugs and not in vitro fertilization.
"When you hear about someone having octuplets, it's almost always the case that they took fertility medications and not IVF," he said.
It's easier to control the number of births through in vitro fertilization, which involves combining egg and sperm in a lab dish and transferring the embryo into the uterus. Fertility drugs induce or enhance ovulation and couples often opt for selective reduction, in which women carrying multiple fetuses reduce the number of viable fetuses to two.
The Bellflower medical center is about 17 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

Well, are you satisfied with last nights show? Were all your burning questions answered? Are you finally relieved to know who the cameramen's favorite tups are?
The commercials were such a tease "think you know everything about the Gosselins?' It makes us want to tune in and find out what they have to say, who wants to tune in to another dentist visit, extravagant trip or witness their special treatment at an amusement park? The show lost its charm long ago and they are grasping at straws. They've worn out their welcome to 50% of their initial viewers but they still have quite a following as evidenced by the numerous nasty comments left on this blog from their so called devout fans. What amazes me are the hundreds upon hundreds of fans that still buy into them! Standing in line for hours to catch a glimpse of Kate or for her to sign a copy of Beth's book for them. I doubt the remaining fans will stick around long after Kate's bitchy entitled attitude drives them to the internet to find out the truth about this family.

As the episodes begin showing the long driveway, the huge pool, the square footage, the huge acreage along with all the other trips and freebies the Gosselins will not turn down, will the fans come to realize that they aren't the same Gosselins that we saw clipping coupons and trying to earn a decent living on their owns and not on the backs of their children.

How can anyone think that it is normal for this family to raise their children in front of the world exposing their private moments and taking away their childhood. Their childhood belongs to the public now, its on youtube, on people's dvr's, pasted in books with prayers.....when is it going to stop?

I ask this question. When are the fans going to say enough? Please help me to understand why you think it is ok to raise children on television as Paul Peterson has said "parenting is not a spectator sport".

List reasons why you think the show should continue and how it is benefiting the children. Remember, they would not be in a welfare line if not for the show, they would be living an average middle class American life so don't tell me the show has saved this family from living in shelters and standing in food lines!!!

After a month, the opinion piece "Kate Gosselin, Most Polarizing Spokesperson Ever?" has finally fallen out of the top-10 most-read stories on Brandweek.com. After 490 comments, the opinion box attached to the article may have just blown up. Or maybe people ran out of venom. What is painfully obvious is that when a company like Procter & Gamble attaches itself to the reality star of Jon & Kate Plus 8, they are inviting a world of criticism.
Like this: "Add me to the list of people who have contacted P&G to express my disapproval of Kate Gosselin as a spokesperson many months ago. So not only is P&G making stupendously stupid hiring decisions, they are lying about the backlash too. Just another reason not to buy their products." And that was one of the nicer comments. (Many people seem to think Gosselin exploits her children by allowing their lives to be filmed.)
Another viewer piled on when she said, "She might not be the worst spokesperson ever, but she sure has the worst haircut ever." Ouch.

Sponsorship, in poor taste?

I was watching an Entertainment show and they were discussing the swag backstage this year at the Critics Choice awards. It was mentioned that this year, the bags were really "lean" compared to years past. Companies can't donate what they used to because of the economy. I think this is going to be a huge effect on Jon and Kate. The move to North Carolina fell through because the sponsors fell through and I think more and more sponsors are going to be unwilling to sponsor as they have in the past.
While families are losing their jobs and fighting to keep food on the table, I seriously doubt anyone is going to be sponsoring any 5 star vacations for this family in the near future. It would be in very poor taste.

I read today that in an upcoming episode, Jon and Kate tell the children they are moving. I wonder if they are going to show the move, show the house or will the new episodes even be filmed in the new house. It's obvious the house they have moved to is beyond what the average family can afford. How do they explain their means to be able to afford this house? Or, do they even need to? It's obvious they have a huge fan base, do the fans care how they bought the house? I doubt it. The show is not on its way out like I would hope, no its here for a few more years as well as a few more books "written" by Kate. The fans bought the house for them and will continue to make it possible for Jon and Kate Gosselin to live like the celebrities they think they are.

I started watching Jon and Kate plus 8 season 1. I was really enthralled with the show and amazed at how one person can take care of eight children without loosing their mind. However, as season three and four have hit the air I have lost all respect for this t.v. commercial (oops I mean show).
I think my dislike started in season three when all the children went to Utah skiing. My first thought was why would you take a three year old skiing? Then you see that all of their ski gear was donated to them. This is definitely not reality, and not something children should perceive as reality. We live in a snowy area and I just went today to buy gear for the snow. For a family of four I spent on two pairs of snow boots, hats, and two pairs of gloves $114.00 at Walmart. I have yet to buy other items for us to go out in the snow. It just irks me that Jon and Kate as well as TLC would like one to perceive a ski trip to Utah as a middle class (J&K like people to think they are middle class) family vacation that is available to everyone.
I think the issue I take with this show is that neither one of the parents hold a job. If one watches reality televisions shows such as "Little People Big World" or even "17 Kids and Counting" you will notice one thing about at least one of the parents in each of these shows; they work! When the show stated that Jon decided to stay at home and "work" it totally blew my mind. I suppose he decided to stay home with Kate and exploit their children for more money and make a career by using their children to make money?
Now, Season Four has been the worst of all seasons when it comes to blatant advertisement in the show. From the trip to Hawaii that was completely paid for by T.L.C. in which most middle class families would have to spend years saving for something like this. Most normal families of four are unable to go to Hawaii, have a private boat, have a private suite to themselves, or get any of the other freebies that Jon and Kate received. It was totally unrealistic, and truly just showcased how they use their children as walking talking commercials.
My next issue came when they went to "give back" to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. First off, they go and stay with their eight children at a four-five star hotel. They advertise for K-Mart, not to mention all the toy companies. Then Kate proceeds to tell everyone in the world that she along with her husband purchased all the gifts to give back to the children at St Jude. After reading many blogs and doing some research of my own it appears that they did not even pay for the gifts. The gifts were donated? I think it takes a lot of nerve to take credit for something that you did not even do (good one Kate).

Overall, it does not take a rocket scientist to see that the way T.L.C. and Jon and Kate perceive reality in this show is totally off mark. The way these people exploit their children, and receive as many free bee's as possible is not reality. Reality is not taking several vacations a year with your eight children. This is not how HARD WORKING people with multiple children live their lives. Reality is not Jon and Kate Plus Eight.

The Difference Between the Roloffs and the Gosselins

I watched Little People Big World last night and I am so saddened by the passing of Roloff family friend Mike. Mike was such an integral part of the Roloff family. I had heard of his passing months ago and was wondering if they were going to mention it in an episode.
I noticed the love the Roloff family has for one another, the love they shared for a dear family friend and most of all their love seems to be so genuine.
Some people may argue that Amy and Matt bicker like Jon and Kate. They don't even come close. Amy and Matt disagree much like most married couples do. There is a level of respect that Amy and Matt display towards one another and to ALL their family members unlike Jon and Kate Gosselin who demonstrate such a lack of respect towards not only each other but to their children and to the various staff members of places they visit. I am so happy that TLC showcases a family that we can relate to as far as how we feel about our own families. Where are Jon and Kate's family? Can you imagine their Christmas dinner? Scott with his booties and wife along with Jen Stocks and her s/o will be the closest thing to family members the Gosselins will have at their dinner table which happens to be on one of the most important days of the Christian calendar year.

The Gosselins do NOTHING that does not benefit them. The "Giving Back" episode was a joke! Lets spend money on 10 round trip plane tickets and first class accommodations so that the Gosselins can take their spoiled children to K-Mart to pick out toys for the unfortunate kids at St Judes. Oh, and don't forget that Alexis got to choose a toy for herself. Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the kids...they are way too young to understand the whole concept. They must be so confused. "Listen, kids we are going on a free trip to buy free presents to give to sick kids". There are so many other things the Gosselins could have done but as I mentioned they don't do anything that does not benefit them. They want a free trip to Memphis, they want First Class accommodations and they want to promote their show. Oh wait, I forgot "they don't need to promote their show".

Show or No Show, With or Without Kids
In my opinion if Amy and Matt had no children, their show would hold the interest of viewers. What they have done to their farm while overcoming such adversity is what TLC should be showcasing.
What adversity have Jon and Kate overcome? Could Jon and Kate Gosselin pull off a reality show without the sextuplets? Absolutely NOT. Who would tune in to watch a bitchy wife degrade her husband in front of their twin daughters. There is absolutely nothing interesting about this family except for the fact that they had 6 children at the same time and they all happen to be adorable. Could they hold the interest of the viewers without the sextuplets? NO WAY!!!

The Speaking Engagements
Yes, Matt and Amy do speaking engagements. They are an inspiration to many. Look what they have accomplished! Amy beat the odds and had four beautiful healthy children, 2 of whom are twins. A "little person" giving birth to twins is very rare and a miracle. Amy never asks for help, she does everything on her own. Many criticize her messy house, so what! Her house is full of love. How many surgeries has Matt had? How many years of his young life did he spend in the hospital? He invented a device for hotel rooms that would enable little people to be able to perform simple tasks that the average person does. I would pay to listen to either one of their inspiring stories.

Back to Jon and Kate Gosselin. Now, what is so inspiring about their story? How exactly did they overcome adversity? What makes them so appealing to people that they would pay money to hear them speak? She had 6 babies at once, ok. She chose not to reduce, ok. She begs for everything she has. She doesn't "earn" anything she has, or is housing 6 babies in your uterus for 30 weeks earning the right to beg? And Jon, what is his claim to fame? He donated the sperm?

I am so tired of Jon and Kate Gosselin trying to sound as if they are some type of super heros. Can you picture Jon or Kate getting on a military plane to help a family of multiples in this country much less Iraq? Yeah, right.
I wish people would stop to think for a moment about what these parents have done to their children. I don't know if you have heard but Mady Gosselin has made it on a NY Post list as one of the Pop Wraps Most Useless Characters. She doesn't deserve this title, her mother does!

Kate Gosselin, Not a good choice? NO!

Opinion: Kate Gosselin, Most Polarizing Spokesperson Ever?

Maybe Kate Gosselin isn't such a great choice for a spokesperson after all. The star of TLC's reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8 was recently tapped to promote Procter & Gamble's brandSaver coupon book. A busy mother of sextuplets, she made her way from Elizabethtown, Pa., to the Big Apple to help launch the brandSaver Live! Pop-up store in midtown Manhattan on Nov. 28. Through Dec. 11, consumers can pop in to get their hair done (thanks to Pantene) or get a makeover (compliments of CoverGirl).

A brief article about the public relations stunt generated hundreds of responses—not because consumers liked or disliked the idea of promoting a coupon book with a live event, but rather because some people absolutely hate Gosselin.

One recent post reads: "Kate Gosselin, the child-exploiter, is a spokesperson for money-saving tips and living on a tight budget?? Well, I'd guess her number one tip would be to start a reality show, which puts your children to work for endless hours because there are no labor laws to protect them in such situations, plastering their faces all over the TV, for any person across the world to have access to . . . and then you and your husband can live off the profits!"

Another: "Procter and Gamble will be sorry they picked her . . . she will suck them dry."

Despite the harsh outcry from some, P&G rep Glenn Williams said the company itself has received no negative comments at all. "She has been terrifically successful in building positive buzz about P&G and brandSaver."

Williams added that hundreds lined up to meet her and that "Kate was very gracious. She is anything you'd want and expect from a positive spokesperson . . . Any famous person is going to have that kind of chatter surrounding them."

Still, the one thing that is strikingly consistent about reader comments was how aware viewers are of the show's various marketing partnerships. One respondent laundry-listed the brands that have apparently appeared on the show: Croc's shoes, V-Tech computers, Juicy Juice. Others were quick to point out that Gosselin also promotes Kmart's holiday layaway plan, as well as the Grain Foods Foundation.

Of course, not all of the posts were of the nasty nature. One rational response said: "My wife and I have been a P&G product user for 30+ years. I will always use them. Some of these people need to release some of their anger."

While this is probably true, consumer packaged goods marketers like Procter & Gamble, tend to be conservative about with whom they align themselves. Thus, it remains to be seen how many will continue to link themselves with Gosselin. P&G, for one, said they will stick with Gosselin to promote the coupon book for months to come.

This despite the fact that people are going out of their way to log entries like this: "I'm a longggg time Tide/Downy user, nearly 25 years, and this week I'll be buying a non PG detergent. I'll forward this article on to my family and friends and let them decide if they wish to pad this screwball's pockets with their hard and legitimately earned money. Bye-bye P&G."

That's not exactly the kind of attention CPG companies generally pay for.
